Advice from Temple Ray

We do not accept unsolicited material. Also, we are not in the business of getting someone to love your music. We have lots of clients whose works we consider first priority so if you've got a CD that's "just perfect for a movie soundtrack," get in line. This is a high rejection business. Get tough, learn all you can. Read "All You Need To Know About The Music Business" by Donald Passman and "This Business Of Music" by Shemel and Krasilovsky. Keep your day - job and don't give up.

If you plan to record and commercially release a product that contains a song you didn't write (example: if you decide to put a cover of "Heartbreak Hotel" on your CD and you plan to sell copies for profit) you must request a mechanical license from the publisher. You must also be prepared to pay the "full statutory mechanical rate" for said song. January 1, 2002, the rate goes up to .08 per song. For more information, please visit the Harry Fox Agency.
